Grade A silk is the highest quality long-strand silk from cocoons that are pearly white in color. It is very pure and can be unraveled to great lengths without breaking. In the silk industry, we divide silk into different grades according to its quality. Grade A silk comes in A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A, with 6A being the highest and finest quality silk. Grade 6A: Good silk comes from good silkworm cocoons. The best silkworm cocoons are round, plump, and uniform in size, and the surface color is the same as that of pearls. They are gentle and not dazzling, very clean, and almost free of impurities. Such a good cocoon can extract about 1200 meters of silk. Higher momme means there is more strands of silk per 100 yards of fabric, therefore making the product heavier. Momme can range anywhere from 11-momme to 25-momme. Higher momme count silk is heavier with a denser weave and thicker individual silk fibers than lower momme count silk. Higher momme count silk is also more costly.   Riyue MountainRiyue Mountain (Sun-and-Moon Mountain) was called Chiling Range (Russet Ridge) during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) because of its grassless russet mountaintop. Legend has it that when Princess Wencheng left for Tubo for her marriage, she passed the Chiling Range. At the thought that she would enter a remote land, she took out the Sun-and-Moon Treasure Mirror given by her mother at departure, and saw her homeland Chang’an (today’s Xi’an City). For the cause of the unity of the two nationalities, she threw the mirror onto the mountain. The mirror turned into the Qinghai Lake, and her tears flowed into a river named Daotang River (flowing back river).
